Learn goat care the practical way, on a working farm. Our classes are designed for beginners, families, and goat owners who want clear, hands-on guidance in a welcoming setting. Whether you are goat-curious, preparing for your first herd, or hoping to build more confidence in the skills you already have, our classes are created to make learning approachable, useful, and grounded in real experience.

At Goat House Farm, we believe the best way to learn goats is by spending time with goats. While books and online resources can be helpful, there is no substitute for learning in person, asking questions, practicing skills, and seeing what daily goat care actually looks like. Our classes are practical, encouraging, and rooted in real farm life, not just theory.

We focus on helping people understand goats in a way that is clear, realistic, and immediately useful. From behavior and handling to daily care and management, our goal is to give participants a strong foundation and the confidence to keep learning. Whether you are just getting started or already caring for goats at home, we want you to leave with greater understanding, practical tools, and a deeper appreciation for what good goat care really involves.

Our classes are built to be educational without feeling overwhelming. We want people to feel comfortable learning at their own pace, asking real questions, and gaining experience that translates into better care at home. By the end of class, participants should feel more informed, more capable, and more connected to both the animals and the everyday work that keeps a herd healthy.

Our Classes

All About Goats
Goats are weird, clever, funny little creatures, and this class is for people who want to know more about what makes them goats. We cover common questions about goat behavior, biology, and communication in a way that is fun, approachable, and grounded in real animals. Why are their eyes shaped like that? Do they really have four stomachs? Why do they act like tiny woodland demolition contractors? This class is a great choice for families, homeschool groups, animal lovers, and anyone who wants to spend time learning about goats without needing to own them.

We’re Getting Goats
Bringing home goats is exciting, but good preparation makes all the difference. This class is designed for people who are planning ahead and want practical guidance before buying their first animals. We cover setup, fencing, shelter, feed, herd needs, routine care, and common mistakes that can create stress for both goats and owners. It is a helpful next step for anyone who wants to start with realistic expectations and a stronger plan.

Kidding Class
Kidding season can go smoothly, or it can get western in a hurry. This class helps goat owners prepare ahead of time so they can recognize labor signs, set up a practical kidding space, stock a useful kidding kit, and understand what normal progress looks like. We also cover common kidding issues, basic newborn care, and when it is time to step in, and when it is time to call the vet. This class is especially helpful for new goat owners, anyone expecting their first kids, or people who want to feel calmer and better prepared before kidding season starts.

Hoof Trimming 101
Hoof care is one of the most important basic skills in goat management. In this hands-on class, participants learn how to safely handle goats for trimming, recognize overgrowth, understand hoof structure, and use trimming tools with more confidence. This class is especially helpful for new owners who want to feel less intimidated by routine maintenance.

Milking Lessons
Offered seasonally, these lessons introduce participants to the basics of milking dairy goats in a calm, practical setting. Topics may include bringing a doe to the milk stand, basic sanitation, handling during milking, simple equipment, and what a normal routine looks like. This is a great option for people interested in home dairy goats or anyone wanting a better understanding of the milking process.

Who These Classes Are For

Our classes welcome a wide range of learners. Some visitors simply want to know more about goats and enjoy the chance to learn in person. Others are planning for their first herd and want practical guidance before getting started. Some already have goats at home and are looking to build confidence with everyday care. Families, homeschool groups, and small private groups are also welcome.

What to Expect
Classes take place on our farm, so learning happens in the same environment where the animals are cared for every day.  Please wear closed-toe shoes and comfortable clothes that are appropriate for a farm setting. Some classes are more observational, while others include hands-on participation depending on the topic and the age of the group.

Scheduling
Class scheduling is flexible and may vary by season, farm workload, and animal needs. Some classes are offered by appointment, while others may be scheduled as small group sessions throughout the year. If you are interested in a particular class, private group experience, or family visit, we are happy to help you find the best fit.

Virtual Classes

Not local? We also offer virtual classes from our farm to yours. These virtual sessions are designed for people who want practical goat education and individual guidance without needing to travel to Goat House Farm. Whether you are preparing for your first goats, working through questions about daily care, or wanting help with management decisions at home, virtual classes make it possible to learn in a more personal and flexible way.

Because these sessions are one-on-one, they can be tailored to your goals, questions, and current setup. If you want practical support from an experienced goat educator, but need it from your own farm, we can work with you.

Goat Care Clinics

In addition to our classes, Goat House Farm also offers Goat Care Clinics on practical seasonal topics. These clinics are a more casual way to keep learning and are a great option for people who want ongoing goat education in a community setting. They also help support our youth programming.  Check out our clinics for the season here.
